Lanyards & Cables

Safety Lanyards

Designed to connect an operative working at height to a secure anchor point, safety lanyards are a commonly used form of fall arrest protection. In the event of a trip, slip or fall at height the lanyard will catch the wearer and absorb much of the force generated to prevent the risk of injury.

Lanyards mainly come in two forms – single and double, which are also commonly referred to as single and twin leg lanyards. The main advantage of the double lanyard system is that it allows the wearer to be securely connected to an anchorage point by at least one leg at all times, providing further protection while working at height.

There are three main types of safety lanyard, designed to cater for different circumstances and applications. These can be split into the following types;

Fall Arrest Lanyard

The most common type, the key feature of this type of lanyard is that they absorb the force of the fall to minimise the potential injury to the wearer in the event of a fall. Available in both single and double styles, Enfield Safety stock a variety of this particular type in steel, rope and webbing, up to the maximum permissible length of 2 metres.

Fixed Length & Adjustable Restraint Lanyards

Personal restraint lanyards create a system where it is not physically possible for the wearer to reach the fall zone, preventing them from falling altogether. Adjustable lanyards are more versatile as they can be used in more locations; for example, a long length lanyard can be used even when there are no anchorage points in the immediate working area as they have the additional reach.

Work Positioning Lanyards

Used in tandem with a harness to provide added support, work positioning lanyards make it more comfortable for the wearer to work in. They are not shock absorbing however, and should therefore not be used as a fall arrest as it would be dangerous to do so, but worn with a separate fall arrest device such as an inertia reel.

Enfield Safety stock a wide range of personal fall protection equipment, from safety harnesses and lanyards to anchorage points and fall arrest blocks. We only sell products made from the highest quality materials and tested to meet rigorous standards, ensuring that they provide reliable protection at that crucial time of need.
