Weather Resistant Clothing
Air temperature can drop dramatically in Autumn. Without the right clothing, team well-being, morale and productivity can take a hit. Outdoor teams are most at risk: without weather-resistant clothing, cold and wet conditions can be draining, reduce concentration and increase accidents.
Using layering is a smart move in the changeable conditions of Autumn. With layers at their disposal, employees can stay warm when needed, but won’t overheat during physical tasks or if conditions change. Jackets and body warmers are perfect for adding warmth. Extra fleeces, heavier coats and thermal underclothing can be added in colder conditions. Make sure you choose waterproof options for outdoor teams.
High Grip Footwear
Wet leaves, ground frost and icy conditions can cause surfaces to become slippery in Autumn. Wherever possible, these hazards should be cleared. In freezing temperatures, gritting and salting strategies are also vital to prevent dangerous ice formation. As well as minimising risks, anti-slip safety shoes are a must to ensure workers have sufficient grip underfoot.
Don’t forget to add thermal socks to your order – extremities are particularly susceptible to the cold and no one likes numb toes!
High Visibility Clothing
When days start to shorten, and murky weather conditions become more common, it’s crucial to keep your team visible with high visibility clothing. Pay special attention to teams working at night, dawn or dusk when visibility is poor. A Visilite Hard Hat Illumination System is recommended for high risk teams.
Make sure you keep a cleaning schedule for your high vis; dirt and debris can cover the reflective material and compromise the effectiveness of high visibility wear.

Gloves
Cold weather can cause workers to lose feeling and dexterity in their hands. Guard against the cold weather with thermally insulated gloves and use waterproofing in wet conditions. Be wary that bulky gloves can be unsuitable for certain tasks and remember to choose cut or chemical-resistant gloves if needed.
Headwear
Lots of body heat can be lost through the head. Keep team members warm with a thermal or woollen hat. Do your workers use hard hats? That doesn’t mean they have to suffer from the cold! Check out the SureFit™ Beanie, designed to be worn underneath a hard hat to keep heads and ears toasty warm.
