As it is International Women’s Day, we thought this would be a perfect time to endorse all the hard-working women in construction.
Women face particular challenges coming into the construction sector; a report by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) and Women Into Construction CiC states that the sector as a whole has only a 15% female workforce.
Closing the gender gap within the construction industry will probably take the work of several generations. While demographics play a big part in what children want to be when they grow up, the role played by gender representation cannot be dismissed. Generally, children want to be ‘what they can see’. For this reason (and others), we need to raise the visibility of female talent within the construction industry: not only to attract today's talent but to inspire tomorrow’s, as well.
