Under: Height SafetyTool Tethering: How to Match Tether to Tool
Dropped from height, even small tools have the potential to be deadly. Good tool tethering practice matches equipment to the job and allows workers to keep tools handy and accessible. Successful tool tethering will make a worker’s life easier as well as keep your team safe.
The first step in selecting tool tethering equipment is to assess the tool you need for the task. You can then choose an appropriate tether based on the tether point it will attach to.

Check your load rating
Don’t forget to check the weight of the tool is compatible with the load capacity of your tether. Try not to use a tether with a much heavier load rating as this adds unnecessary weight and bulk for the worker to carry and could hamper efficiency. Selecting a tether within the same weight range as the tool will give workers the most comfortable and efficient experience.
Heavy duty options such as the Pro Shank Tether or Anchorage Point can support heavier tools. Remember, it’s unsafe to tether tools above 5kg to the worker, choose a suitable fixed anchor point instead.
